1. Client Request
A client living in Tachikawa contacted us with the following request:
“I want to continue using this dining table I have had for many years, making it beautiful again while keeping its original atmosphere as much as possible.”
The work requested this time consisted of the following two items.
• Repairing wobbling table legs and exposed bare wood
• Repairing scratches and deteriorated finish on the tabletop, followed by refinishing

2. Leg Repair: Reinforcing Wobbling Legs
Before
At the base of the legs, the joints had loosened over time, causing one side to shift and create a gap where the bare wood was visible.

During
First, we carefully removed the existing parts. To increase strength, we reinforced the joint by increasing the number of tenons from one to two.

After
The legs were secured more firmly than before, greatly improving the table’s stability.

3. Tabletop Repair and Refinishing
Before
The surface of the tabletop showed widespread peeling of the finish, small scratches, and overall deterioration of the sheen.

After
In the repair process, after removing the original finish, we carefully repaired scratches in the wood and applied coloring to match the original tone.
We then finished the surface with urethane coating, which offers excellent durability and stain resistance.

The table was restored with a beautiful finish that highlights the oak grain, almost like new.
4. The Appeal of Oak Wood
The table repaired this time is made of oak.
Oak is heavy, strong, and highly durable, making it a very popular material for furniture such as tables and chairs.
In particular, oak’s distinctive ray fleck pattern, known in Japanese as “torafu,” and the texture that becomes richer with age are part of the true appeal of solid wood furniture that can be enjoyed over time.

5. Finished Result After Repair and the Client’s Response
The legs were strengthened, and the tabletop regained a beauty comparable to a new piece.
The dining table was restored so that it can continue to be used safely and comfortably for many years to come.
The client was also very pleased with the finished result.
