1. A Dining Table Made from a Solid Tabu Wood Slab

A dining table is something we use every day. Rather than being just a place to eat, many people want it to become the centerpiece of their home—a piece they will cherish for years to come.

This custom-made table showcases the impressive presence that only a solid Tabu wood slab can provide, while maintaining a clean and understated overall design.

・Beautiful grain with a natural luster
・A live-edge profile that preserves the tree’s original shape
・Decorative butterfly keys that reinforce natural cracks

Every element has been carefully balanced so the natural beauty of solid wood remains the true focal point.

The tabletop retains its live edge, allowing the original form of the tree to remain visible. Combined with the rich grain unique to Tabu wood, it brings warmth, elegance, and a sense of natural luxury into the space.

2. The Beauty of Its Lustrous Natural Grain

One of the greatest attractions of Tabu wood is its striking figured grain, which seems to shimmer as it catches the light.

The appearance changes depending on the viewing angle and the way light falls across the surface, giving the table a different expression throughout the day.

As seen in the photos, flowing grain patterns extend across the entire tabletop, highlighting the natural beauty and unique character that only solid wood can offer.

This is truly a one-of-a-kind table with a character that simply cannot be replicated by mass-produced furniture.

3. Live-Edge Design That Preserves Nature’s Shape

One side of the tabletop retains its natural live edge, giving the table a softer, more organic appearance than a conventional straight-edged design while bringing a warm, natural atmosphere to the entire room.

A live edge is one of the defining features of a solid wood slab, allowing you to appreciate the tree’s original form.

Rather than the uniformity of a manufactured product, these naturally formed curves make the table more meaningful and enjoyable the longer you live with it.

4. Butterfly Keys: Combining Function and Design

The tabletop features traditional butterfly keys (“Chigiri”) to help prevent natural cracks from spreading.

Butterfly keys are a time-honored woodworking technique used to stabilize solid wood while preserving its natural beauty.

For this project, they serve not only a structural purpose but also a decorative one. Darker wood was selected for the butterfly keys to create a striking contrast against the Tabu slab, emphasizing the dramatic beauty of the single-piece tabletop.

One of the greatest charms of solid wood furniture is that its natural characteristics become part of its unique personality.

5. Simple Legs That Let the Slab Stand Out

The legs were designed with careful attention to balance so they would complement, rather than compete with, the impressive presence of the tabletop. Their subtle outward angle creates a light, elegant appearance despite their simple form.

Although solid wood tables naturally have a substantial presence, the clean leg design reduces visual heaviness and allows the table to blend comfortably into a variety of interior spaces.
