1. Client Request

The item we received this time was a solid walnut dining table that the client had used for many years.
The surface coating had peeled, and stickiness and scratches had become noticeable.

The client also requested that the legs be cut slightly shorter, so we handled both the repair and height adjustment.

2. Work Process and Finish

The following work was carried out:
• Surface sanding
We sanded away the peeling finish, scratches, and stickiness to expose the natural solid wood surface.
• Oil finish + wax
A non-colored oil was applied to bring out the character of the wood grain, followed by wax to add a subtle sheen and restore a natural feel.
• Leg height adjustment, -3 cm
The legs were cut according to the client’s request and reattached securely to prevent wobbling.

3. Before and After Repair

Before
• The overall surface appeared whitish, uneven, and faded
• Peeling coating and roughness on the surface were noticeable

After
• The beauty of the wood grain stands out, with a deeper color tone
• The moist sheen and smooth feel of the oil finish have been restored
• The edges of the tabletop have also been smoothed and refined

*The cut sections of the legs are not shown in the photos, but we carefully finished every detail.

4. Characteristics of Walnut Wood

Walnut is a highly popular wood used worldwide for high-quality furniture. It has the following appeals:
• Deep brown color and beautiful grain
It is a material that develops even more character over time.
• Excellent durability and strength
It has a substantial feel and the strength to withstand many years of use.
• Excellent compatibility with oil finishes
The contrast in the wood grain becomes more pronounced, resulting in a moist and refined finish.

Even when the surface coating has deteriorated over time as in this case, sanding and refinishing can restore the table’s beauty to a condition close to new.
