1. What Is Remodeling?
At OJIKI Workshop, remodeling means not simply throwing away furniture that is no longer needed or has become difficult to use,
but redesigning and reworking it to suit today’s lifestyle and living environment, giving it new value.
Furniture that is old but filled with memories, or furniture once used by someone important,

2. Background of the Request and Condition of the Furniture, Before
The piece brought to us was a large chest of drawers that had been used by the family for many years,
with seven drawers arranged in two columns.
The surface showed wear from many years of use, and the top also had scuffs and uneven coloring.
3. Concept of the New Design
The client requested “a compact and charming storage cabinet with a Scandinavian taste.”
At OJIKI Workshop, we reused the drawer sections from the original chest while newly producing the main body box and legs.
Details such as the mitered front corners and tapered round legs serve as design accents.
The design sketch drawn before remodeling shows the process of turning the image into an actual form.
4. Attention to Processing and Finish, Remodeling Process
• Newly made legs and side panels: A minimal box-shaped body was adopted to create overall balance.
• Miter-jointed front: A technique that makes the joints at the corners less visible was used, resulting in a clean finish.
• Stained coloring + urethane finish: The finish was matched to the color of the drawers, creating a natural and warm appearance.
• The calm wood tone and charming silhouette leave a strong impression.
5. The Finished Piece, After
It was reborn as a compact three-drawer cabinet.
By keeping the original drawer handles, the design achieves a well-balanced look where retro charm and newness coexist.
