Remaking One Unused Wardrobe into Four Pieces of Furniture Across Three Categories

A customer asked us whether it would be possible to transform an unused wardrobe into new furniture that could continue to be enjoyed for years to come. In response, we remade the wardrobe into four new pieces across three furniture categories: a storage cabinet, a full-length mirror, and two stools.

1. A Well-Loved Wardrobe Used for Many Years

The wardrobe featured in this project had been carefully used and cherished by the customer for many years.
It had stored clothing throughout everyday life and quietly witnessed countless family memories over the years.

As shown in the photos, the wardrobe was beautifully constructed, with elegant doors, framed panels, and glass inserts that reflected the craftsmanship of its era.
Although the piece had developed small scratches and signs of age through decades of use, these marks also told the story of its long life.

2. Restoring and Reworking the Original Wood

One of the most important aspects of furniture remaking is preserving as much of the original material as possible.

We carefully dismantled the wardrobe and inspected each component to determine which parts could be reused.
The doors, side panels, glass doors, and frame members were all repurposed and transformed into components for the new furniture.

Furniture that has been used for many years often carries scratches, scuffs, stains, old hardware marks, drill holes, and minor damage.
For this project, each damaged area was carefully repaired before new materials were incorporated where necessary.

Special attention was given to the original glass doors, repairing unwanted marks while resizing and reshaping them to fit their new purpose.

Newly fabricated parts were also stained and finished so they blended naturally with the color and grain of the original wood.
By carefully repeating these detailed processes, we were able to preserve the character of the original wardrobe while creating furniture suited to modern living.

3. Three New Types of Furniture Created from One Wardrobe

The original wardrobe was transformed into four individual pieces across three different furniture categories.

Although each piece serves a different purpose, the matching wood grain and finish create a beautiful sense of harmony throughout the room.

◎ Compact Storage Cabinet

The wardrobe was resized while preserving its original character, creating a practical storage cabinet.

It can be used for a variety of purposes, including:

– Clothing storage
– Bag storage
– Coat storage
– Living room storage

◎ Full-Length Mirror

The original mirrored door was transformed into a freestanding full-length mirror.
While keeping the mirror itself intact, the overall size was slightly adjusted.
New solid oak legs were crafted to provide both stability and an elegant appearance, making it ideal for an entryway or bedroom.

◎ Two Stools

The stool seats were made from the wardrobe’s original door panels.
New solid oak legs were handcrafted and sized to the customer’s specifications.

Because the stools originated from the same wardrobe, they pair beautifully with the storage cabinet and full-length mirror, creating a cohesive furniture collection.

4. A Natural Finish That Blends Original and New Wood Seamlessly

Furniture remaking often requires incorporating newly crafted wooden components.

For this project, new solid oak was used for the following parts:

To ensure the new materials blended naturally with the original wardrobe, each piece was carefully color-matched, stained, and finished by hand.
Our goal was to make the newly added components almost indistinguishable from the original wood, creating a seamless and harmonious appearance.
