1. Project Details | Furniture Making That Gives New Life to Reclaimed Materials
This project was an upcycling request from a reuse company, using reclaimed residential building materials.
“We want to give new life to materials that would otherwise be thrown away.”
We sympathized with this idea and accepted the project.
The request was:
“We would like you to create a new usable desk using reclaimed materials from a house.”
Based on this request, we created an upcycled desk made from reclaimed residential building materials and resin.
2. Before Work Began | Materials That Could Not Be Used As They Were
The reclaimed materials were in a condition with many scratches and stains, remaining marks, and screws and nails still embedded in the wood.
In this state, they could not be used as furniture.
The first step was to prepare the materials so that they could be used safely. For this reason, the most important part of the work was the pretreatment process.
・Checking and removing nails and screws one by one
・Carefully sanding scratches and dirt from the surface
・Checking whether there were any issues with strength
By carefully preparing even the parts that are not visible, the materials were reborn as furniture that can be used safely for many years.
3. Finishing | Adding Beauty and Durability with Resin
The desktop was finished by polishing practical resin.
・Creates a smooth and beautiful surface
・Improves resistance to water and dirt
・Helps make the surface less prone to scratches
At the same time, we preserved the unique character of the reclaimed materials while refining the surface into a texture that works beautifully as a finished design.
4. Completion | A Finish That Makes It Hard to Believe It Was Made from Reclaimed Materials
The completed desk has a simple appearance, while still allowing the character of the materials to be clearly felt.
